The How-To Geek

March 20th, 2008 No comments

There isn’t a single individual who knows everything about using computers despite what $|_|p2G33|< may say online (that’s “supergeek” in leetspeak – be wary of leetspeek people). That being the case, it is best to keep track of some people who do know a lot and one of the people I follow to learn more is the How-To Geek.

He blogs short tips and guides for Apple, Firefox, MS Office, Ubuntu/Linux, Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Other Geek Stuff (those are his official categories). The easiest way to keep up with all of his latest posts is to subscribe to the RSS feed.

What separates his site from many other techie sites and why I’m making a point of highlighting him here is because most other computer sites are geared towards other computer geeks and end up not being helpful to regular computer users. The How-To Geek is a site for the regular computer user and the computer geek. The how-tos that are posted are easy to follow and are useful to everybody.  Be sure to bookmark the site and subscribe to his RSS to get regular helpful tips to make using your computer just a little bit nicer.

OS X Help For Beginners

February 25th, 2008 1 comment

Lots of people switching to Macs lately.  Unfortunately, as easy as they are to use – there is still a transitional phase that can trip up many people.

In comes OSXHelp.com to fill the gap.

They are starting rather fresh so they are sticking to the latest OS X release of 10.5 (Leopard). If you don’t know what any of that means … this site is for you. They are hoping to provide “insanely simple tutorials” geared towards people who are unboxing a Mac for the first time.

Go ahead and give them a look – even if you are fairly familiar with Mac – and you’ll probably learn something useful.

Mac Switch Made Easier By “Find Out How”

January 30th, 2008 2 comments

Apple released a new sub site called “Find Out How” that contains a bunch of video tutorials on how to do some interesting things on a Mac.  The first couple videos are good for people thinking about switching to a Mac and other video tutorials show off some of the uses of a Mac and its software.  The videos are short averaging about 2 minutes each and give a concise view of things from switching from Windows to Mac all the way to formatting documents in Pages.

If you’ve been considering switching to a Mac, these videos may help you decide if it is worth your investment. At the very least, it may help those who have never used a Mac see what makes them different.
