Outlook vs. Gmail

Lifehacker recently compared, in depth, the differences between using Outlook and Gmail.

Check out the site for the details but here is a quick rundown of the comparisons:

  • Searching
  • Folders vs Labels
  • Rules vs Filters
  • Contacts
  • Spam Filtering
  • Storage Space
  • User Experience
  • Workflow
  • Mobility
  • Support

The result of the blow by blow comparison in the reviewer’s opinion is that Gmail wins because of its feature simplicity.  For straight email use, I would agree that GMail is much easier and friendly to use – not so much when looking at task, calendar, and contact management. The article does a good job of presenting strengths and weaknesses of each so it’s easy to make your own decision. The article also does a good job of introducing you to some of Gmail’s features and some of Outlook’s features you may not have known about.
