Digg Expands Social Aspect

Popular news site Digg has added a slew of new features which adds a more “social” aspect to the site. Many of the features are typical of social sites (adding friends and fans and sending messages to them), but some of the other social aspects are kind of nice.  They allow for a more specialized viewing of Digg – which can be overwhelmed by certain fanboy topics.  This should really help bring the “common user” into the digg fold as these features help keep the nerd factor down. Check out the Digg overview and faq for more detailed information and check the video from Kevin Rose about the new features.

To be completely honest… I’m not a huge Digg fan. I like getting some news from there, but the social aspect didn’t mean anything to me – until I started messing with some of the new features.  It has certainly made Digg a more user friendly experience.  With the new image service coming out soon and these other features — I’m actually willing to say “Give Digg a chance as a news source… even if you aren’t a techie”.
