Apple Event: The Beat Goes On (Updated)

September 5th, 2007 Leave a comment Go to comments

Today there is a special Apple event (happening at 12PM CST). The generally accepted rumors are that it will be the release of new iPods with new functions. Smaller Nano’s with widescreens for video functions, full size iPods with full touch screens like the iPhones, and maybe even some wifi itunes store action.

We’ll have to wait and see. I’ll update this post with the results after the event.

If you don’t want to wait… you can follow the live blogging of the event at Ars Technica or Engadget.

UPDATE:

So here’s the info (no pictures… pictures available everywhere in a few minutes and at the above linked sites – lots of pictures at the Engadget site).

New version of iTunes.  New feature: ringtones.  Ringtone maker and also purchase of Ringtones through iTunes Store.

New Nano. Wider but shorter (and still thin).  Now with video support. Updated User Interface.  Price: 4GB for $150 and 8GB for $200.

iPod Classic: Thinner.  New UI like Nano. 80GB for $250 and 160GB for $350.

iPod Touch: iPhone without the phone.  Includes Wifi and Safari.  Seriousl… it’s the iPhone without the “phone”.  Very cool though. 8GB for $299 and 16GB for $399. This will be available to purchase in a couple weeks.

iTunes can now be accessed wirelessly via WiFi on iPod Touch and iPhone.

iPhone: Price drop.  8GB is now $299.  $200 price break.  4GB model pretty much gone it seems.

Starbucks partnered with Apple.  If you are at Starbucks, a “Starbucks” icon will appear in iTunes Wifi allowing you to purchase or preview the currently playing track at Starbucks (or the past 10 tracks).  Cool idea, but not really exciting.

Store and iPod page at Apple will be up with new stuff soon.

That’s it.  Enjoy the Apple fandom in the news for the next couple days.

I’m debating on which iPod to purchase… I’ve been waiting for the hardware refresh before buying one… now I need to decide!
