Anime Music Video (AMV) … an intro

I like watching anime. Fansubs are the only way to go too. That’s a whole different topic though so lets stick with a subculture of anime fans… the Anime Music Video or AMV.

An AMV is essentially the same as a regular music video except anime is used as the video source. They generally have a theme and they tend to go with the music in one way or another (even so far as lipsync and some incredible effects) – at least the good ones do. The bad ones are just … bad.

Here is an example of a very good AMV (the quality is sucky because it’s YouTube so don’t judge on that please):

Now that one should illustrate something very particular about AMVs. They can be really cool to watch but sometimes you need to know who these anime characters are for it to make any real sense. Unfortunately that is more the rule than the exception so if you aren’t an anime fan it might not be as much fun to watch these. Many are fun to watch no matter the anime.

Here’s an AMV that doesn’t require you to know the anime:

If you are interested in learning more about AMVs or watching any of the above in much, MUCH better quality, go to AnimeMusicVideos.org and sign up.

The two above videos can be found there as well:
